Dinner with Ye Nu Shi and Family
|
|
It was sort of a Chinese new year Painian for us. We went over to their house and spent pretty long time chatting throughout. It was a very heart-warming meetup
Ye Nu Shi whom we got acquaintance durong our Beijing tour group, had brought us to a nearby restaurant in their neighbourhood for a treat. She ordered a wide feast for us and gosh, the dishes were local Shanghainese dishes and they are indeed exotic to us! We had our very first taste of what drunken prawns were, fried snake skin and many more!

Afterwork Dinner with Ah Hai and Bo You
|
|
The group of us were treated by Ah Hai to a dinner at a local restaurant in Jing Qiao. I actually came to this place previously, introduced by Xiao Yang, our company driver. It offers economical dinner and yup, the food was great and large portion served.
This restaurant has wide array of Kai Jiao Fan to choose from!

Final Day of Beijing Tour

We visited the Temple of Heaven, or also known as Tian Tan. It is a historical temple built since 2600BC and have been a tradition where emperors of the different dynasties visited the Temple for sacred worship !

One of the very first thing we learnt from the trip was - waking up really early for sticking to tour groups. Not only that the schedule was always packed tight and sometimes to places which we dont feel like going at all.
The iternary of the day started off with our first scenic spot at Tiananmen Square. Well, we were greeted by endless queue of people ! Gosh! We had to queue for nearly an hour before we entered the memorial for Mao Ze Dong. The rest of the days we spent squeezing through crowds of people and following hard with the tour guide on the colossal history of Forbidden Palace. Can you imagine people have to run just get a good glimpse of view and a clear explanation of the history? Haiz.
However we had the fun part when we were given the free and easy for the remaining night to have our dinner at the city centre of Beijing. The famous road-stalls street was selling alot of special delicacies which i doubt I would have tasted it if not for this trip. Local delicacies like fried scorpions, grasshoppers and silk cocoons which all of have a taste of it =) It was indeed unforgettable!

CNY Tour :Start of our 4-day tour to Beijing
|
|
It has been awhile since we reached Shanghai. Today was the start of our first holiday trip in China. We have 5 days of break due to Chinese New Year here and have all agreed unanimously to travel out to - Beijing ! It was also the 1st out-of-Shanghai trip the whole gang of us have travelled together especially when nearly all of us were working in different parts of Shanghai and Suzhou!
A pity i cant recalled much of the places that I have been to other than some very famous sights like Forbidden City, Tiananmen , The Great Wall of China etc.
We didnt really enjoyed alot from this trip as we were taken aback by the huge MASS of people heading to Beijing for holiday!! The whole Beijing airport was flooded with masses of people from all different provinces when we landed. Not to mention, we were already slightly shocked by the 'uncouth' and shaky landing of our internal Shanghai flight .Also, a huge regret from me after this trip - my poor knowledge in China history! If only i have known....

Our 2nd Day of Familiarisation of Shanghai Street =)
|
|
We woke up early again and hoping to explorer further of Shanghai streets we learnt from our travel guide book which we brought along
We had a really affordable breakfast at Guan Guan Ji eatery food chain located somewhere near to Ba Bai Ban. Each of us forked out less than S$2 for a what we called a sumptuous breakfast meal =) Had our first taste of dao xiao mian and they are really marvellous!
Heading down to deeper of Puxi, we walked on foot from the cathedral and later to Shanghai Stadium. Along the way, we discovered a shi zhang near to Caoxi station which sell very delicious and extremely cheap Xiao Long Baos! Our very first virgin try of street hawker stall 's xiaolongbaos, Mala mian and sweet potatoes! Yummy
Think we also headed down to Shanxi Nan Lu where the famous Xiangyang Market is located. We headed there for a little shopping and glimpse of the wholesale 'bargaining' centre targeted at *tourists*

Our 1st Day of Exploration of Shanghai
|
|
I thought I would be living along with other people from the company and discovered that hey, coincidentally I got another student going to stay together in the same apartment as me! Well then i knew, I gonna get Daniel as my housemate for my remaining 6 month stay in Shanghai! That was a marvelous surprise cos the 4 of us got to know each other before we flew other.
The gals were staying at different area from us but luckily it was within 20mins walking distance from us. Lucky them, they were staying in Ju Yuan, a pretty prestige condominium while both of us stayed in a pretty run-down building in Dongfang Lu. Nevertheless, it has its' plus points. We were staying in an area that is so convienient for us. The large supermarket chain and Dong Fang Lu Metro Station is just a road away. Facing opposite us were some commercial buildings. We were already extremely glad that we were not staying in some out-of-reach areas in Shanghai! Also, we got a Singaporean expat staying together with us too. In a twist of fate, all 3 of us were each working in different companies hhaa =)
After settling down for awhile and getting abit familiar with our surroundings, we decided to come out together for a breakfast before we head to explore more of the city streets of Shanghai!
Headed to Yaohan Ba Bai Ban and went straight to Bi Feng Tang, a famous HK eatery chain in China. Gosh, we had a sumptuous delicious tim-sum breakfast. We thought it was very cheap ( but subsequently tot it was indeed pretty costly after few months staying there )
Guess we were still not experiencing the value of Renminbi when we reached there initially. Everything is extremely affordable to us when we were 'first' there. We were taking cabs everyday for our first week in Shanghai that we decided we must put a stop before our money run low!
Went straight to the famous Nanjing Road,

Today marked the day of our departure to Shanghai for our 24 weeks of Industrial Attachment. We were particularly excited as we were the first few to reach Shanghai. The rest would be arriving only after Chinese New Year.
We made the choice not to push back our attachment for celebrating CNY in Singapore but went ahead to have it in Shanghai instead together. How fascinating was the idea to us!
Reached Pudong Airport at around 3:45pm and awaited patiently yet excitedly for our company driver Lu Hua to fetch us in the freezing weather (minus degree temp) It was the first time for us to experience winter and we were all going crazy with the mini fog we created while we talked
We were brought to the company and got face-to-face with Mr Goh whom we only knew by his voice through our long distance phone interview.
Not to forget our first day was welcomed by Mr Chong by a steamboat dinner at a famous Yuen Yang steamboat restaurant in Pudong!

Dinner with Mingyian @ Thumb Plaza
|
|
It's the 2nd time we met up again in Shanghai. Just more than half a year ago, she was here on her travel trip after ending her GIP programme in Beijing.
Now she's back from her Europe trip after ending her Poland exchange programme. And not only that, with her new bf which started while one is in Poland and the other in Shanghai. Wow, found that really surprising how fate can really bind two people from continents apart together.
Well we made it a point that we must take a photo together since the last time we didnt even take a single shot.
I guess she is one of the few junior -est sixians left from Hall 6 i've known during my varsity days. Maybe when i have the time i wish to have, i should start recounting the hall life photos.. all the hall orientations, ih, training sessions..events etc.. all filled with gd memories
