Back to Pulau Buluh #1
|
|
Havent been visiting my grandma and indo relatives for a long while. When my uncle prompted me i was abit shocked myself, my last visit could be as far back as yr 2003 before i headed for Shanghai for internship. Time flies.
It's a relief to me that i managed to schedule 2 days off to Batam, and together with my young aunt & family. If not, I wouldnt know when will be the next time i will get to go back Batam again.
Things have changed alot. Still remembered the good old days when road system was extremely bad, my ride to Saggunlung for the speed-boat ride was horrendous : bumpy or if not muddy road-ride and not to mentioned, it took an hr of car ride journey.
Cant recall which place of Batam centre is nearer to Saggulung, but one thing for sure, the desolated area of Saggulung now has evolved for shipyard industries. The coastline has changed quite abit.
Just a 5-mins boat ride across Saggulung is the small island call P. Buluh where my grandma resides. Heard that recently there were sharks swarming around the area and no one dares to swim now.
Had a good evening walk around the island. Last time when we were young, a morning walk session with my grandma takes about 1hr plus. Now, it took us about 45mins. Hmm,...
I still remembered that's where i started picking up cycling, where i started riding on a mountain bike when i was just 'tall' enough to sit on the seat and lay my feet on the pedals, and where i had my serious wound from cycling fall.....etc etc.
I still crazed for the food which my aunt cooked - ikan pedas. Yummy. My first order when i touched grounds. And i started craving for soto ayam, meesiam, gado gado.. the thoughts of it just make me hungry now..

Interns Gathering Together with Ah Hai
|
|
Another get-together session with the old interns, and the fresh-returning interns at Bugis Street. All made possible by Yuhan suggestions.
Also a meetup with Ah hai who has been stationed back in Singapore after working for so long (5 yrs+) since Rowena and I did not have a chance to meet when he left from Suzhou plant.
Alas. When will the next gathering be again ? Countdown..

Club Vietnam (Part of FCC)
|
|
Venue:
Bldg 11-12, 889 Julu Lu
near Changshu Lu
巨鹿路889号11-12号楼
In the twist of fate for satisfying our craze for the so-much-hype talk about Vietnamese di-lu (dew-drop) coffee, we ended ourselves in FCC.
FCC in long means Foreign Culture Club. I am abit sceptical of this place initially as if this place is a ground for expat gathering, and which links to how expensive it will be
This place is definitely worth a visit, for its building architecture and the fine ambience that have oozed out from its outlandish decor. Not to mentioned, apart from Club Vietnam, there is also Terrace at its first storey which serves French-Mediterrean food.
I did have my taste of the di-lu coffee but, i did not get to see the process of the making. The cup of coffee supposed to be made from accumulation of condensation of coffee vapour. Amazing huh.
The desserts we ordered were also specially crafted & at perfecto taste.
Worth another visit again, but provided we have money to spare in the pockets
